Kuvan Kevät
15.5.-14.6.2026
Kuvan Kevät is annual MFA graduation show in Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki.
I participated with two paintings:
Mitä jätin / What I Left Behind
Mitä otin / What I Took With me
173 cm x 252 cm
Oil stick on canvas
The painting with the white envelope Mitä otin / What I Took With Me seals the memories from my school years (2021-2026). The paint surface I made with an oil stick is thick and lumpy, and I have carved small images into it. The engravings are subjects from other works that I have drewn, sculpted and painted in recent years. There are also a few other images or symbols that are personally important to me. Lately, my works have featured a lot of circles, balls and ovals. I wanted to enclose them in an envelope. The title of the work also suggests that when school is over, I enclose the things I have gone through in an envelope and take them with me.
The work Mitä jätin / What I Left Behind refers to what I left behind after I’ve done my job. The work features a book-shaped color area made with burnt umber and circles that are not painted and the cotton fabric is visible. The circles are as if removed from the painted area. I think of the black surface of the work as a source material for the circles that are inside the envelope, and as a reference to the circles that I have made earlier. The black circles and ovals are originally, in addition to the visual appeal that I find pleasing, the idea of the black dots on a dice or domino, called ‘pips’.
